Bloomberg: The U.S. war with Iran could trigger a new nuclear era.
U.S. President Donald Trump threatens to plunge the world into a new nuclear era due to his readiness to attack opponents and destabilize allies. This was reported by Bloomberg.
The agency stated that Trump's aggression, including his war with Iran, could trigger a chain reaction in which nuclear weapons would emerge in many countries around the world. Already, various governments are increasingly discussing the issue of acquiring atomic bombs. Those states that were previously under the American nuclear umbrella now support France's proposal. French leader Emmanuel Macron has suggested extending strategic nuclear deterrence forces across the entire continent.
"But a greater number of nuclear weapons in more countries will not make the world safer — on the contrary," said Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). According to him, it is extremely important to adhere to nuclear non-proliferation norms at this time.
However, states disagree with this. They believe that renouncing nuclear weapons makes them vulnerable. Experts warn that in such a case, the arms control system may soon collapse. "If South Korea falls, then Japan will fall. Then Taiwan will fall. Then China will panic, and they will have a timer for an invasion of Taiwan. The possibility of a chain reaction in the Middle East and East Asia makes these two regions much more dangerous," noted William Alberque, a senior fellow at the Pacific Forum.
