U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday expressed "full and unconditional support" for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, urging voters to vote for him in the parliamentary elections taking place in April, LETA reported citing AFP.
Orban "is a truly strong and influential leader with proven phenomenal results," Trump stated on the "Truth Social" platform, praising him for his fight against illegal immigration, restoring law and order, and for elevating relations with Washington to "new heights of cooperation."
"I proudly supported Viktor in his re-election in 2022 and it is an honor for me to do it again. Election Day is April 12, 2026," Trump said.
"Go and vote for Viktor Orban! I am with him to the end," the U.S. president urged Hungarians.
On March 21, Trump wished Orban victory in the elections "by a large margin of votes."
In early April, U.S. Vice President James David Vance is expected to visit Budapest, which should indicate political support.
Earlier, media reported that the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) allegedly suggested staging an assassination attempt on Orban to improve his results in the parliamentary elections in April.
