The government of Moldova approved the introduction of a state of emergency in the country's energy sector for a period of 60 days, starting from March 25, the Ministry of Energy reported on Tuesday, according to LETA citing INTERFAX-UKRAINE.
"The Cabinet of Ministers approved the introduction of a state of emergency in the energy sector throughout Moldova for a period of 60 days, starting from March 25," the ministry's statement said.
According to legal procedures, this decision must be officially approved by parliament, which is why an extraordinary meeting was convened on Tuesday, the ministry noted.
"Due to the military attacks by Russia on infrastructure in southern Ukraine, which resulted in the cessation of operation of the 400 kV Vulcănești–Isaccea power line, the decision is based on a risk analysis, the need for urgent intervention to protect critical infrastructure, and the mobilization of additional resources," the Ministry of Energy explained.
