Drones that flew into Latvia and Estonia likely aimed to bomb the ports of the Leningrad region

On the night of March 25, drones fell on the territory of Latvia and Estonia. Riga and Tallinn stated that the drones came from the direction of Russia.

Two Baltic countries reported the fall of drones on their territory - the incidents occurred on the night of Wednesday, March 25. The Latvian Air Force detected an UAV flying from the direction of Russia, reports the online publication Delfi. The drone exploded in the territory of the Kraslava region. There were no casualties among the civilian population, and civilian infrastructure was not damaged, reported the National Armed Forces of Latvia.

Another unidentified flying object entered the country's airspace from Belarus, made a slight turn, and flew back towards Russia. Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds interrupted his working visit to Ukraine and returned home in connection with the incident.

In Estonia, on the same night, a drone crashed into a pipe at the Auvere power station. The energy company Enefit Power reported that the power station did not sustain direct damage, and the incident does not significantly impact the country's energy system.

"This is about the consequences of Russia's full-scale aggressive war. It can be assumed that such incidents will recur," quotes the words of the Director General of the Estonian Security Police, Margus Pallasoon, the website of the Estonian National Broadcasting Company.

Latvia allowed for a Ukrainian trace

Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina stated on the TV3 channel that the drone that fell in the Kraslava region could have been Ukrainian - just like the drone that fell in Lithuania the day before. On Monday, March 23, a drone fell on the territory of Lithuania without causing damage.

Lithuanian authorities reported that, according to available data, it was one of the Ukrainian drones involved in the strike on the Leningrad region: it could have deviated from its course due to electronic warfare measures.

Strikes on the Leningrad region

Against the backdrop of incidents in the Baltic states, Ukrainian military forces attacked the Leningrad region twice - on the night of March 23 and the night of March 25. The region's governor, Alexander Drozdenko, reported that more than 70 drones were shot down over the region on the first night, and more than 50 on the second.

As a result of the attacks, the Primorsk port was affected, where oil storage tanks caught fire, and the Ust-Luga port, where a fire also broke out.
