The First Trucks Detained in Belarus Have Returned to Lithuania

The first Lithuanian trucks detained in Belarus returned to Lithuania after authoritarian President Alexander Lukashenko green-lighted their departure on Monday, reported a representative of the State Border Guard Service of Lithuania (SBGS).

As reported by BNS, the representative of the State Border Guard Service Gedrius Mishutis stated that the first trucks crossed the Lithuanian border through the "Mediininkai" and "Shalchininkai" checkpoints around 5 a.m.

"An hour ago, around 5 a.m., released cargo trucks began passing through both border checkpoints," Mishutis said on Tuesday morning.

According to preliminary data, these are trucks registered in Lithuania.

Earlier, BNS reported that on Monday, Lukashenko decided to allow trucks with Lithuanian plates to leave the country. This was reported by the Belarusian state news agency "BelTA."

According to the agency, vehicles will be able to leave after receiving payment for parking from the carriers. The Belarusian agency stated that this fee is "several times less" than the previously established Minsk charge of 120 euros per day.

The State Customs Committee of Belarus, quoted by "BelTA," reported that more than 1,900 trucks and semi-trailers will be able to leave the territory of Belarus towards Lithuania "in accordance with the legislation."

Despite the open border, the Minsk regime has not allowed Lithuanian vehicles to leave the country since the end of October last year and directed them to special parking lots, where a fee of 120 euros per day was charged for each truck or semi-trailer, and after four months, Minsk promised to confiscate them.
