Latvia suddenly found itself in the spotlight of top American TV. Popular comedian Jimmy Fallon mocked Donald Trump's attempts to gather a coalition in the Persian Gulf, where shipping is paralyzed due to the conflict with Iran.
The plot revolves around how the President of the United States sequentially receives refusals from NATO allies. When it comes to Riga, the dialogue takes an unexpected turn:
Latvia said: “You won’t get far!” Trump replied: “You’re lucky I don’t know where you are!” In this sketch, the neighbors also got their share: in response to Tallinn's refusal, Trump ironically laments that he “is starting to feel lonely.”
The reason for the humor was Trump's quite real and sharp statements. Earlier, he openly called NATO allies cowards for their unwillingness to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz.
“They didn’t want to join the fight to stop the nuclear state of Iran. Now, when this fight has been won militarily and they are not facing a major threat, they complain about high oil prices but do not want to help open the strait,” he stated, emphasizing that it was Iran's actions that drove up fuel prices worldwide.
