President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko (in the photo) pardoned 250 political prisoners. This occurred after the visit of the U.S. delegation and the lifting of several sanctions.
Lukashenko's press service announced that he has decided to pardon 250 prisoners "convicted of extremist crimes."
They stated that the President of Belarus "was guided by the principle of humanity."
Earlier, the media reported that the Belarusian regime had released a group of political prisoners, some of whom will be transported to Lithuania.
On March 19, Lukashenko held a meeting with an American delegation led by U.S. Special Envoy John Cole. Following the meeting, Cole announced the lifting of sanctions on several Belarusian banks and companies producing potash fertilizers.
According to preliminary data, journalist from Belsat Ekaterina Andreyeva, human rights activist Anastasia Loyko, blogger Eduard Palchys, as well as Kirill Kazey, Dmitry Kubarev, Alexander Kozlyanko, Nikolai Kuleshov, Sergey Movshuk, Nikitazolotarev, Kim Samusenko, Pavel Shpetny, and Denis Zhelezko are expected to arrive in Lithuania.
