The EU has voted to ban the use of AI for generating intimate images.
The European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs has laid the groundwork for banning the use of AI to create sexualized images of real people without their consent. Committee members, as reported by Deutsche Welle, approved the introduction of a new amendment to the Artificial Intelligence Act, which could come into force as early as this year. The European Parliament must now vote on the new amendment.
This measure is seen as a response to the creation and distribution of millions of explicit images of women generated by the chatbot Grok based on ordinary photographs, notes AFP. To create such images, it was enough to give the chatbot a command, such as 'Undress her' or 'Put a bikini on her.' The generation of child pornography has also become possible.
