Bloomberg: Trump wants to make Cuba dependent on the U.S. and change its leadership.
U.S. President Donald Trump is considering several options to pressure Cuba, including the island's economic dependence on Washington and a change of leadership in the country. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.
"Trump has targeted a third country: Cuba. And while the country may fear a military invasion, recent data suggests that Trump is considering a third way," the report states.
To change the country's leadership, the U.S. administration is looking at a scenario that the U.S. previously applied to Venezuela.
According to sources, Trump and his allies want to achieve the removal of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and are reportedly already in talks with Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castro, the grandson of former Cuban President Raúl Castro.
Earlier, Trump threatened a "hostile takeover" in Cuba. He noted that negotiations with the Latin American country are already underway, led by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
