The first week of the war against Iran cost the U.S. $11.3 billion, according to a Pentagon report presented to the U.S. Congress, LETA reported, citing AP.
The Pentagon presented this cost estimate to Congress at a briefing this week, a source familiar with the situation reported on Wednesday.
The U.S. military reported that $5 billion was spent on munitions during the first weekend of the war.
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump had previously indicated that it would submit a request to Congress for additional funding for this war; however, it seems that this idea has been abandoned for now.
Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Republican Roger Wicker, stated on Wednesday that he does not expect a request for additional funding this month.
Trump: The war with Iran may "end soon"
U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that the war with Iran may "end soon," LETA reported, citing DPA.
In a brief phone interview with the news outlet Axios, Trump said that the war with Iran will "end soon" because "there is practically nothing left to strike."
"At any moment, whenever I want it to end, it will end," Trump said in a five-minute interview.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, however, dashed hopes for a quick end to the war.
"The operation will continue without any time limits for as long as necessary until we achieve all our goals and achieve victory in the campaign," Katz said at a meeting with military leaders at the headquarters in Tel Aviv.
Israeli Army spokesman Efi Defrin also stated that the Israeli army still has an extensive list of targets. The Israeli army is also prepared to continue its mission in Iran for as long as necessary.
Two days ago, Trump suggested that the war could end soon, attributing this to his military successes.
"I believe this war is largely over. They have no navy, no communications, no air force. Their missiles are scattered. Their drones are exploding everywhere, as is their drone production. If you look, they have nothing left. Nothing left in a military sense," Trump said on Monday, reiterating his assessment of Iran's losses that he had expressed in previous days.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran stated on Tuesday morning that it will "determine the end of the war," rejecting Trump's statements that the war is largely over.
