The President of the European Commission responded at a meeting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
At a meeting of the European Commission in Strasbourg, a strong statement was made by the head of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, as reported by Polish Radio. She made it clear: there will be no return to Russian oil and gas.
The politician responded to calls to resume purchases amid rising energy prices due to the conflict in the Persian Gulf region: "That would be a strategic mistake. It would make us more dependent, more vulnerable to threats, and weaker."
In the first ten days of the war in the Middle East, prices surged: gas prices increased by about 50%, and oil prices rose by about 27%.
"At the same time, we have our own energy sources - renewable and nuclear. Their prices have not changed in these ten days," emphasized the head of the European Commission.
