U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the war with Iran could "end soon" because "there is practically nothing left to target." He said this in an interview with Axios.
"Little things... Whenever I want it to end, it will end," he noted.
According to Trump, the operation is going more successfully than expected.
"The war is going great. We are significantly ahead of schedule. We have inflicted more damage than we anticipated, even in the initial six weeks," he stated.
He added that the strikes on Iran are a response to Tehran's long-standing policy in the Middle East.
"They have been hunting the rest of the Middle East. They are paying for 47 years of death and destruction they have caused. This is payback. They will not get away with it so easily," Trump said.
However, despite Trump's public statements that the operation has already achieved its main goals, American and Israeli officials claim that the timelines for ending hostilities have not yet been discussed within government structures, Axios reports.
According to sources, the U.S. and Israel continue to prepare for further strikes on Iran for at least the next two weeks.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz previously stated that the military operation will continue "without any time limitations, as long as it takes, until we achieve all goals and secure a decisive victory in the campaign."
