The European Parliament tightens migration policy.
The European Parliament Committee has approved the tightening of the European Union's migration policy. The new measures will allow European countries to create deportation centers outside the EU. Those whose asylum applications have been rejected can be sent there. There are also harsher penalties for those who refuse to leave the EU - ranging from entry bans to imprisonment.
In the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, the package of measures was approved by votes from conservatives and far-right members. A vote by the full European Parliament may take place as early as March 12. The EU Council approved these measures at the end of February.
Human rights advocates criticize the tightening of migration policy. They fear human rights violations, as illegal migrants may be deported to countries with which they have no connection.
