Trump called Putin and announced the easing of sanctions against Russia

U.S. President Donald Trump is considering further easing sanctions on Russian oil amid a sharp rise in prices, Reuters reports.

The U.S. president reported this after an evening (Moscow time) phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Why did Trump call Putin? According to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, Trump called Putin to "discuss the development of the current international situation."

Ushakov said that "Putin expressed to Trump his thoughts on resolving the Iranian conflict, including the results of his conversations with the leaders of Gulf countries."

Negotiations to end the war in Ukraine were also discussed. "In the conversation with Trump, Putin noted the successful advance of Russian troops, which should encourage Kyiv to seek a settlement," the Russian presidential aide stated.

Earlier, Kyiv reported that recently the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been reclaiming more territory from the Russian army than they have been losing.

According to Ushakov, the conversation took place at Trump's initiative. "The conversation was businesslike, frank, and constructive. The U.S. president noted that such communication should occur on a regular basis, and the leaders indicated that they are ready for this. The conversation lasted about an hour," Ushakov said.
