Rubio: The US did not strike Khamenei and did not seek regime change in Iran.
The United States did not carry out strikes aimed at eliminating Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and did not seek regime change in the country. This was stated by Congressman Mike Turner during an interview on CBS News, referring to a statement by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
"And yesterday, when I had the opportunity to speak with Secretary Rubio, I asked this question, and he very clearly answered that we were not targeting Khamenei and that we were not targeting Iran's leadership," Turner said.
According to the congressman, the US is not taking actions to change the regime in Iran during the operation. He noted that the main goal of the American strikes was the military infrastructure of the Islamic Republic.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump named three candidates for the role of future Iranian leader — however, intelligence doubts that Washington will be able to change the power.
