“Cynical violation of all norms of human morality.” Putin expresses condolences over the killing of Khamenei

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian over the killing of the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, as reported on the Kremlin's website on March 1.

“Please accept my deepest condolences on the killing of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and members of his family, committed with a cynical violation of all norms of human morality and international law,” the statement reads, as quoted by Meduza.

Ali Khamenei was killed as a result of an Israeli airstrike on his residence, which took place on February 28. Iranian authorities confirmed his death on the night of March 1. According to Iranian media, the strike killed Khamenei's daughter, son-in-law, grandson, and one of his daughters-in-law.

Ali Khamenei had been leading Iran since 1989.
