Iran has restored the Soviet project 877EKM submarine 'Paltus'.
The naval forces of Iran have restored one of the diesel-electric submarines of project 877EKM 'Paltus', which is considered a primary threat to the ships of the US Navy. This was reported by the Telegram channel ImpNavigator.
The authors of the message drew attention to a photo of the Iranian naval base in the city of Bandar Abbas. In it, the Soviet-built submarine can be seen docked at the pier rather than in the dry dock.
It is noted that in recent years all three 'Paltus' submarines of the Iranian Navy have been undergoing extensive repairs. The authors also suggested that the submarines are being modernized.
The submarines of project 877EKM (Export Capitalist Modernized) are distinguished by mechanisms optimized for operation in tropical conditions. The main armament of the submarines consists of 533-millimeter torpedo tubes. In the 1990s, Iran received three 'Paltus' submarines from the USSR. Initially, the contract envisioned the delivery of six ships, but later it was revised in Moscow under US pressure.
