Poland discovered secret underground tunnels on the border with Belarus, through which Russia is directing illegal migrants to Europe, implementing a hybrid war against the West, The Telegraph reports, citing LETA referring to UNIAN.
Polish border guards discovered four such tunnels in 2025, constructed with the involvement of specialists from the Middle East. Experts suggested that these specialists could have been Kurdish militants, terrorists from the Islamic State group, or members of Iran-backed formations.
One of the largest tunnels was found in mid-December near the village of Narewka in eastern Poland. The Telegraph reported that it was used by 180 illegal migrants, primarily from Afghanistan and Pakistan. 130 of them were detained after emerging from the tunnel.
According to Polish data, this tunnel had a height of one and a half meters, and the entrance on the Belarusian side was concealed in the forest. The length of the tunnel was about 50 meters on the Belarusian side and 10 meters on the Polish side.
Videos from these tunnels show a structure resembling a basement, with concrete supports reinforced on the sides to prevent collapse. Military experts noted that the only groups in the Middle East capable of building such tunnels are Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Hezbollah in Lebanon, some Kurdish formations, and possibly the Islamic State.
