The U.S. State Department, responding to last year's attack by Ukrainian sea drones on the Caspian Pipeline Consortium terminal in the Russian port of Novorossiysk, urged Ukraine to refrain from strikes on targets related to U.S. interests, said Ukraine's ambassador to Washington, Olga Stefanishina, according to LETA citing BBC.

Speaking on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the ambassador noted that after the attack, the U.S. State Department reached out to Ukraine, "as it affected the economic interests of America and Kazakhstan." According to her, there was a démarche from Washington on this issue. Stefanishina declined to specify whether she was summoned to the State Department and what Ukraine's response was, Reuters reports. Stefanishina emphasized that this was not a call for Ukraine to refrain from strikes on Russia's military and energy infrastructure. "This was related to the fact that American economic interests were affected there," she said. Kazakh oil is exported through Novorossiysk, using the Caspian Pipeline Consortium terminal. The American oil company Chevron, which owns 15% of the shares in the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, is involved in oil production in Kazakhstan.
