The Bulgarian and Romanian services of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) will cease operations on March 31 due to funding issues.
This was reported by the company's president, Steve Kaplan, on the X platform.
Recall that the cancellation of funding for Radio Free Europe was related to the decision of U.S. President Donald Trump to cut the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which he made in the spring of last year.
After that, the EU agreed to provide emergency funding to support the work of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
However, it is clear that Romania and Bulgaria did not receive enough money. And to survive in market conditions, as private radio stations do, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty was unable to.
