The U.S. Navy is conducting exercises to sink ships as a warning to Russia and China. This is reported by the American publication 19FortyFive.
According to journalists, the exercises are aimed at studying how real ships sustain damage and how weapons perform in realistic conditions.
"The Navy learns a lot from these exercises. Sailors collect data on what kind of damage a hull can withstand before it sinks to the bottom of the ocean," the article states.
Thus, in 2024, during the Valiant Shield 24 exercise, the Austin-class amphibious ship USS Cleveland was sunk. It was destroyed by new American operational-tactical missiles, the Precision Strike Missile.
The authors note that such exercises by the U.S. Navy can be seen as a warning to Russia and China.
