Russian state structures have decided to conceal data concerning demographic indicators, as well as the consumption and expenditures of Russian households.
The Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) has removed from public access data concerning demographic indicators, as well as the consumption and expenditures of Russian households, noted the project "If to be precise," citing Meduza.
According to researchers' calculations, a total of 168 tables were reduced or removed from ten statistical collections published in EMISS at the end of 2025 — more than a hundred of them relate to demographics. Since the summer of 2025, 115 static indicators in the system have ceased to be updated.
Among the missing data are the results of the "Sample Survey of Household Budgets" (OBDХ). These surveys allow for estimating how much households earn and how much they spend. Based on them, the consumer price index and poverty indicators are calculated. Now, data on citizens' expenditures on food and housing and utility services, as well as ownership of durable goods, such as mobile phones, have disappeared from publications.
In addition, Rosstat has completely closed data on the number of public servants (including the shares of men and women among the staff), as well as information on the salaries of social sector and science workers — doctors and medical personnel, school teachers and kindergarten educators, college and university lecturers, cultural institution employees, and scientists.
Data on social support measures have also ceased to be updated: the number of recipients of state assistance and its amounts. Recipients of assistance include socially vulnerable groups (people with disabilities, low-income families, orphans, and refugees), as well as those entitled to allowances and payments for merits, such as war veterans.
Statistics on juvenile delinquency and the total number of convicts serving sentences in correctional colonies have also been removed from access.
