The Polish Sejm, as reported by Polish Radio, has adopted a legislative amendment that exempts all Poles who participated in combat operations on the side of Ukraine from liability.
The law introduces amnesty: "forgives and forgets crimes and offenses related to service in a foreign army by Polish citizens or foreigners residing in Poland."
An amnesty is also provided for those who have already been convicted.
The law is effective from April 6, 2014 - the day the fighting in Donbas began.
Previously, participation in a foreign army without the permission of the Polish Ministry of Defense could result in a prison sentence of 3 months to 5 years.
