In 2026, the Latvian passport received the highest rating ever in international passport rankings, strengthening the country's position on the map of global freedom of movement, reports the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs.
According to the Global Passport Index (The Passport Index), developed by the international financial consulting company Arton Capital, in 2026 the Latvian passport ranks a high 4th in the world. This indicator confirms the broad opportunities for Latvian citizens to travel to other countries without a visa or with minimal entry formalities. For comparison, in 2025 Latvia was also ranked 4th in this ranking, while in 2024 it was 6th.
The Latvian passport was also rated highly in 2026 by the Henley Passport Index - 7th in the world. This is a significant increase compared to 2025 when Latvia held the 10th position. The Henley ranking is based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and assesses passports based on the level of visa-free access.
Both international indices use similar methodologies, comparing the opportunities of various passports for visa-free travel or simplified entry. The latest data confirms that the Latvian passport is currently one of the most influential in the world.
