Ukraine to Support Homeowners in Purchasing Generators - Zelensky

The Ukrainian government will provide support to homeowners in acquiring electric generators and other energy sources amid ongoing Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy system, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Monday after consultations with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, according to LETA citing DPA.

According to Zelensky in an evening video address, the purchase of autonomous power supply sources should become more financially accessible for associations of apartment building owners and private homeowners.

As part of another program, enterprises have already submitted 20,000 applications for subsidies for the maintenance and repair of generators.

Zelensky reported that half a billion hryvnias (9.8 million euros) have been allocated for interest-free loans for the purchase of generators.

However, the demand for generators may be significantly higher.

Several waves of Russian airstrikes since the beginning of January have posed such a serious threat to Ukraine's energy supply that Kyiv, Kharkiv, and other major cities are experiencing shortages of electricity or heating amid severe winter frosts.

In Kyiv, more than 1,100 apartment buildings will remain without heating until spring. Enterprises continue to operate using diesel generators.

The state energy company "Ukrenergo" announced multi-hour power outages across the country, which will continue on Tuesday.
