Newsweek: Xi Jinping criticized Trump during a significant visit by a U.S. ally.
During the visit of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to Beijing, who is attempting to conduct a major reset of relations with China, Chinese President Xi Jinping indirectly criticized U.S. President Donald Trump. This was reported by Newsweek.
According to a statement from Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, Xi Jinping told Starmer during their meeting that "unilateralism, protectionism, and power politics are thriving."
"The international order is under enormous pressure," the diplomat conveyed the words of the Chinese leader. The President of China emphasized that international law can only be truly effective when all countries adhere to it.
"Major countries, in particular, must set an example; otherwise, the world will return to the law of the jungle," Xi Jinping concluded.
Earlier, Trump stated in an interview with the British newspaper Daily Mail that he communicates with the Chairman of the People's Republic of China almost every week. It is claimed that at one point Trump's phone rang, and he interrupted the interview to talk with the Chinese leader.
