Ukrainian authorities have initiated a criminal case against Navalny's associate

The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine has initiated a criminal case against Russian opposition figure Leonid Volkov. The reason was a personal message from Volkov to a representative of the RDK, in which he, among other things, insulted the Ukrainian authorities.

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine has launched a pre-trial investigation (the main stage of criminal proceedings in Ukraine) against Leonid Volkov, the head of political projects at the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK). This was confirmed on Thursday, January 15, by a source from Deutsche Welle in the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine.

Scandal Surrounding Volkov

The reason for initiating the case was a publication made on January 5 by former FBK employee Anna Tyron, who is now working in the "Russian Volunteer Corps" (RDK), fighting on the side of Ukraine. She posted on Facebook a message that Leonid Volkov had previously sent her after hearing about the death of the founder of the RDK, far-right Russian nationalist Denis Kapustin, when it was still unknown that his death had been staged.

In this message, the opposition figure notably approved of Kapustin's death, referred to the RDK as a "clownish 'corps'" that "solved murky tasks for the vile village political technologist (formerly the head of Ukrainian intelligence, now the head of the office of the President of Ukraine) Budanov." "I hope Kapustin's friends will follow him. Ermak will go to jail, Podolyak will go to jail, Budanov will go to jail, and all the other propagandistic hypocritical thieves," Volkov wrote.

Later, the opposition figure described his text as "emotional and harsh," and stated that it "should not have been written." At the same time, he emphasized that he "has a negative attitude towards neo-Nazis." The State Security Department of Lithuania is currently verifying Volkov's statements, who now lives in Lithuania, after a request from the migration service. The authorities want to determine whether his remarks pose a threat to Lithuania's security.
