The German company Feps, specializing in defense, logistics, and infrastructure solutions, intends to build a quarter called German Village in Lithuania with approximately 4,000 housing units intended for the Bundeswehr personnel stationed in the country.
As reported to BNS by Rashid Aishi, managing partner of Feps Lietuva, the exact location for the project has not yet been decided — the company is focusing on the area between Vilnius and Rudninkai, as well as the territories around Rukla in the Jonava district.
"The project is in the planning stage. Communication is ongoing with several municipalities regarding the acquisition of land plots," Aishi told BNS.
There is already a training ground in Gaižūnai, and a military town for the German brigade is being built on the territory of the training ground in Rudninkai.
"The project is planned as a self-contained village-type complex with all necessary infrastructure and green spaces, conveniently located in relation to both Rudninkai and Vilnius. (...) The residential spaces are designed and built primarily for German military personnel, but also for all other interested parties," explained a representative of Feps Lietuva to BNS.
Aishi indicated that the cost of the project could be "around several hundred million euros." When asked who the client of the project is, he replied that it is a private initiative.
The managing partner of Feps Lietuva noted that the area will include apartments, linked cottages, individual houses, and residences for officers. All facilities are designed in accordance with the housing standards of the German government.
"The residential spaces are designed according to German directives applicable to military personnel stationed abroad and their families. Depending on personal circumstances — single, married without children, married with children, officer rank, and so on — each military member is entitled to a specific standard and living conditions," Aishi commented to BNS.
According to him, the project is planned to be developed in phases, with the construction of the first apartment buildings expected to begin in the second half of this year.
