First Deputy Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Russian State Duma Alexey Zhuravlyov called for a "tough response" to the Americans for the seizure of the tanker under the Russian flag.
"This is the most ordinary piracy: the seizure of a civilian vessel by the armed American fleet. Essentially, it is the same as an attack on Russian territory: after all, the tanker was sailing under our state flag.
There is no doubt that we need to respond to this firmly and promptly – our military doctrine even suggests the use of nuclear weapons in response to such actions. Moreover, according to available information, a Russian submarine and some of our military ships were nearby the vessel," said the deputy.
Zhuravlyov believes that Russia should give a military response to the US.
"Attack with torpedoes, sink a couple of American Coast Guard boats. The US, which is in a euphoria of impunity after the special operation in Venezuela, can only be stopped with such a slap on the nose," Zhuravlyov added.
And Washington is not afraid
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt stated that in light of the tanker seizures, Trump will maintain open and honest relations with Putin and Xi Jinping.
"Are you concerned about the rising tensions with Russia due to the seizure of tankers? And how do US actions in Venezuela affect ongoing relations with China and the president's relationship with Chairman Xi?" a journalist asked her.
"I think the president has very open, honest, and good relationships with both President Putin of Russia and Chairman Xi of China. As you know, since taking office about a year ago, he has spoken with them multiple times, and I believe these personal relationships will continue.
But regarding the US president, he will pursue a policy that best serves the interests of the United States of America. And concerning these ship seizures, that means ensuring compliance with the embargo on all vessels of the 'shadow fleet' that illegally transport oil, and allowing only legitimate trade," Levitt responded.
