A month before the intervention in Venezuela with Maduro's kidnapping, U.S. President Donald Trump signaled to leaders of American oil corporations about upcoming significant changes.

About a month before the U.S. detained Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, Trump sent an ambiguous but enticing message to two executives of American oil companies: “Get ready.” Trump hinted that significant changes were expected in Venezuela, reports the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) citing sources. It is possible that the corporate leaders were waiting for such a sign, understanding what it might symbolize.

According to information from sources close to the publication, Trump limited himself to one hint, not disclosing details, and did not seek the executives' opinions on potential investments in Venezuelan oil fields, which he publicly mentioned after the attack.

On January 3, U.S. Armed Forces conducted a military operation against Venezuela. A series of explosions rocked Caracas, and helicopters belonging to the U.S. Marine Corps were spotted in the sky. American military forces struck several targets in Venezuela, resulting in damage to the La Guaira port — one of the largest in the country. The republic's president, Nicolás Maduro, along with First Lady Cilia Flores, was kidnapped and taken to America.
