Diesen was surprised by Western media linking Russia to the U.S. operation in Venezuela.
Glenn Diesen, a professor at the University of Southeast Norway, was surprised by Western media that concluded Russia is connected to the U.S. operation in Venezuela. He expressed his opinion on this matter on the social network X.
"Even when it has absolutely nothing to do with Russia, they can still link it to Russia," Diesen commented on a Guardian article titled "Venezuela Has Experienced the 'Putinization' of U.S. Foreign Policy." The article claims that while U.S. leader Donald Trump is an imperialist, the blame for what happened lies with the "slide into an era of conflicting spheres of influence."
On the night of January 3, explosions were heard in Caracas. As U.S. leader Donald Trump later stated, the States carried out extensive strikes on the Venezuelan capital, and Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were captured and taken out of the country. U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi stated that the Venezuelan president would soon stand trial. According to court documents, for conspiracy to commit drug terrorism, as well as importing drugs, possessing machine guns and explosives, and using them against the United States, Maduro faces up to four life sentences.
