The CIA and NSA concluded that Ukraine did not attempt to attack the residence of the President of Russia in the Novgorod region with drones. The CIA director has already informed Donald Trump about this, DW reports.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the National Security Agency (NSA) of the United States concluded that Ukraine did not attempt to attack the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was reported on Wednesday, December 31, citing sources by the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and the television channel CNN. Ukraine attempted to attack a military target that, like Putin's residence, is located in the Novgorod region, but "not near it," WSJ reported, citing an American official familiar with the intelligence data.

According to CNN, on December 31, CIA Director John Ratcliffe informed U.S. President Donald Trump of these findings. On the same day, Trump posted a link on his social media platform Truth Social to an editorial from the New York Post, which linked the information about the attack on Putin's residence, disseminated by Russian authorities, to the fact that "it is Russia that is hindering the achievement of peace."

Russian authorities reported an attack on December 29

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on December 29 that Ukraine attempted to attack Putin's residence in the Novgorod region - "Dolgye Borody" on Lake Valdai - with 91 drones. Lavrov also mentioned that due to this, "Russia's negotiating position will be revised," but Moscow does not intend to withdraw from the negotiation process with the United States.

Trump himself also stated that Putin informed him during a phone call that the residence "Dolgye Borody" had allegedly been attacked. The U.S. President said he was "very angry" when he heard about this but acknowledged that the attack might not have occurred.

The Russian Ministry of Defense on December 31 showed debris from drones allegedly shot down while approaching Putin's residence. There has been no credible confirmation of information about the attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces from independent sources so far. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected the accusations of an attempted attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the residence.
