Putin Signs Decree on Year-Round Military Draft

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree for conducting the military draft in 2026 throughout the entire calendar year, reports the Russian agency Interfax, citing LETA referring to Meduza.

According to the decree, the draft will take place from January 1 to December 31. Until now, medical and draft commissions in Russia were conducted during the spring and autumn drafts.

A total of 261,000 individuals aged 18 to 30, who are not in reserve and are subject to mandatory conscription, are planned to be drafted into the army.

At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the sending of draftees to the army will continue to occur twice a year, as before.

This year, a law was passed in Russia allowing for the conscription of citizens for military service throughout the entire calendar year. Putin signed the relevant law in early November.

Starting January 1, 2026, draft commissions will be able to issue summonses, organize medical examinations, and hold draft commission meetings year-round.

It is worth noting that starting in 2024, the upper limit of the draft age in Russia has been raised to 30 years.
