Ukraine attempted to attack Putin's residence in the Novgorod region with drones last night, Russia will retaliate, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. This is denied in Kyiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky calls this statement a fake and links it to his talks with Trump yesterday:
“Another lie from the Russian Federation. It is clear that we had a meeting with Trump yesterday. And it is clear that for the Russians, if we do not have a scandal with America, and we have progress, for them it is a failure. Because they do not want to end this war. They can only end it due to pressure on them.
To be honest, I was still expecting some rhetoric yesterday. You see, they are going further. Now they are preparing the ground with their statement that some residence of theirs was attacked, I am sure, to strike at the capital and probably at government buildings. We already had this in September, there was a missile strike on the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. Therefore, everyone needs to be attentive now. A strike may be made on the capital. Especially since this person – if we can talk and call him a person – said that they would select appropriate targets, that is, they are threatening,” the President of Ukraine stated.
Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin has already called Donald Trump and informed him about the threat to his residence in the Novgorod region. The details of the conversation between the presidents of Russia and the USA were reported by Putin's assistant Yuri Ushakov:
“And, of course, Vladimir Putin drew his colleague Donald Trump's attention to the fact that practically immediately after the American side considered the negotiation round in Mar-a-Lago successful, the Kyiv regime carried out a terrorist attack with large-scale use of long-range drones – an attack on the state residence of the President of Russia in the Novgorod region.
From our side, it was clearly stated that such reckless terrorist actions will, of course, not go unanswered. The President of the United States was shocked by this message, literally outraged, and said that he could not even imagine such crazy actions.
And, as it was said, this will undoubtedly affect American approaches in the context of working with Zelensky, to whom the current administration, as Trump himself said, thank God, did not give 'Tomahawks.'”
