19FortyFive: Russian submarine 'Yasen' surprises the U.S.
A Russian Yasen-class submarine has surprised the U.S. coast. This was reported by American journalist Brent Eastwood in an article for 19FortyFive.
According to him, these submarines have many features that reduce noise levels and enhance stealth. They can also carry powerful weapons, including Kalibr, Oniks, and Zircon missiles. The author reminded that in 2024, one of these submarines docked in Havana.
"The deployment in 2024 in Cuba was an unpleasant surprise for [the U.S.]. The submarine may be gathering intelligence on the Gerald Ford carrier strike group and sharing it with the Venezuelans. This makes Yasen-class submarines a valuable asset for [Russian President Vladimir] Putin, allowing Russia to diminish the effectiveness of the U.S. Navy in their own territory," Eastwood warned.
Earlier, 19FortyFive analyst Jack Buckby spoke about the fearsome reputation of the Russian 'Black Holes.' According to him, the diesel-electric submarines of project 636.3 'Varshavyanka' (NATO designation - Improved Kilo) of the Russian Navy remain a serious asset at sea due to their stealth.
