The Russian surface-to-air missile system (SAM) S-500 "Prometheus" will be able to detect the fifth-generation stealth fighter F-35 Lightning II from a long distance. The capabilities of the SAM were assessed by the Israeli publication Jerusalem Post.
"A source reported that the S-500 may have new detection capabilities that allow it to track F-35 stealth fighters at distances of hundreds of kilometers," the article states.
At the same time, the publication's source emphasized that tracking a detected stealth target and guiding weapons onto it is extremely difficult.
The publication added that after full deployment, the S-500 will be able to intercept satellites and other space objects.
