The new plan to end the war, which was discussed by delegations from the U.S., Ukraine, and Europe at recent negotiations in Berlin, includes specific mechanisms to prevent Russian aggression with the involvement of U.S. and European forces, reports the American newspaper The New York Times, citing LETA and BBC.
According to participants in the negotiations, the U.S. has agreed to provide Ukraine with legally binding security guarantees. The publication notes that the second part of the plan contains a document outlining specific actions by the 'coalition of resolve' from European countries and the U.S. aimed at preventing further aggression from Russia in conjunction with the Ukrainian army.
Although the content of the document is not disclosed, sources told The New York Times that it describes various specific scenarios ensuring Ukraine's security in the event of a new invasion by Russia.
In particular, the U.S. will need to utilize its extensive intelligence capabilities to monitor compliance with the ceasefire conditions and to timely detect the movement of Russian troops.
American forces will also need to ensure that minor clashes do not escalate into a new war, the publication states.
At the same time, the armed forces of Western countries that have agreed to participate in the Europe-led 'coalition of resolve' will be stationed in western Ukraine to create another preventive barrier against possible Russian aggression.
Additionally, the U.S. will need to identify attempts by Russia to organize provocations aimed at resuming hostilities.
