US billionaire donated $100,000 to the hero who disarmed a terrorist in Sydney

American billionaire and founder of Pershing Square Capital Management Bill Ekman transferred $99,999 to Ahmed Al-Ahmed, who disarmed one of the terrorists during the tragic events at Bondi Beach in Sydney on December 14, Sky News reports.

Ekman initiated a fundraising campaign on the GoFundMe platform and urged users to support the man who intervened during the attack. By the time of publication, the total amount of donations exceeded $760,000 with a stated goal of $1 million.

Ahmed Al-Ahmed, a 43-year-old fruit shop owner in a suburb of Sydney, was at Bondi Beach during the shooting. He approached the armed attacker, took the weapon from him, and handed it over to the police. During the incident, the man sustained injuries to his arm and shoulder and was hospitalized. He is currently recovering. Al-Ahmed has two children.

In a post on social media platform X, Bill Ekman stated that society rarely expresses support for people who risk their lives for others. According to him, such acts deserve recognition and assistance, including support for the family.

The Jerusalem Post, in turn, published an article titled: "If there were a Jewish Nobel Prize for saving Jews, Ahmed Al-Ahmed just received it."

"The Jewish people owe him not only applause. They owe him recognition, memory, and honor. And Australia should also view his bravery as a model, not an exception, in the fight to protect minorities and uphold public rights," the newspaper stated.

The shooting occurred during an event commemorating Hanukkah. According to police, 16 people were killed, and about 40 were injured. The attackers were a father and son. One of them died at the scene, while the other is in the hospital in critical condition.
