British Spies Will Not Abandon Ukraine: Head of MI6 Warns Putin

The new head of British intelligence MI6, Blais Metraveli, launched a critique against "aggressive, expansionist" Russia, warning dictator Vladimir Putin that British spies will not abandon Ukraine.

As reported by The Telegraph, in her first speech from the MI6 headquarters, Metraveli stated the unwavering commitment of the UK to Kyiv: "Putin should not doubt, our support is steadfast. The pressure we are exerting in Ukraine's interests will continue."

"The export of chaos is not a mistake, but a feature of the Russian approach to international engagement, and we must be prepared for this to continue until Putin is forced to change his calculations," Metraveli noted.

The publication pointed out that this statement came amid the Trump administration's insistence on reaching a "peace agreement" and pressuring Ukraine to make significant territorial concessions.

Threats to Europe

She noted that the rules of war are now being rewritten by Russia and other hostile actors, and that the world is facing a new "era of uncertainty."

In this context, the publication reminded that Russia has previously been accused of conducting a hybrid war against Europe, using cyberattacks and drones in an attempt to sow panic.

British military intelligence also warned that Putin is modernizing the navy to target critical underwater cables and pipelines.

It is worth recalling that Metraveli took over MI6 earlier this year, becoming the first woman to lead the foreign intelligence agency in its 116-year history.
