Ukraine's accession to the European Union (EU) in 2027 - as one of the conditions of the peace plan by U.S. President Donald Trump - is not agreed with the union itself. This is reported by the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.
"But the deadlines until 2027 were not agreed upon either with Brussels or with European capitals. Until now, 2030 was mentioned," it is noted in the publication's material.
It is clarified that the idea of accelerated EU membership was proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but Brussels responded to this idea ambiguously. It was assumed that support for this point from the United States would convince Hungary to support Kyiv's Euro-integration.
Earlier, the Financial Times (FT) reported that the latest version of the peace agreement project for resolving the Ukrainian conflict includes a provision for Ukraine's accession to the European Union by January 1, 2027. Officials supporting Ukraine's EU membership stated that including this issue in the peace agreement would make accession to the union a fait accompli for Kyiv. This is because EU leadership would not want to disrupt the settlement process by opposing the tightened deadlines.
