The military transport aircraft An-22 crashed in the Ivanovo region. The aircraft fell in the Furmanov district, into the Uvodkovskoye reservoir near the village of Ivankovo.
According to Shot, the crew steered the aircraft away from residential buildings during the fall, and the An-22 broke apart. There is currently no information about the causes of the crash.
The military transport An-22 is the largest turboprop aircraft in the world, designed for the long-distance transportation of troops and equipment. The aircraft was conducting a scheduled flight after repairs.
According to a source, the crew of the downed An-22 likely did not survive. Rescuers are searching for the pilots or their bodies. In the crash area on the reservoir, only debris from the aircraft has been found so far. It is known that the crew last communicated at 11 a.m.
The An-22 "Antey" is a Soviet heavy turboprop transport aircraft, the first wide-body aircraft in the world and the largest turboprop aircraft in the world.
Incidentally, last year another military aircraft crashed in the Ivanovo region: on March 12, 2024, a heavy military transport aircraft Il-76 crashed in the region. The disaster claimed the lives of 16 people.
