The reserves in the energy sector of Russia that remained after the collapse of the USSR have been exhausted, and now the industry is experiencing a lack of funding. In addition, the refusal of Western countries to supply equipment for the modernization of thermal power plants remains a problem, causing work to be postponed because there are no analogs in Russia.

Electricity shortages in various regions of Russia have collectively reached 25 gigawatts. This was stated by the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, Sergey Tsivilev, in an interview with the publication "Expert."

According to him, without transitioning to a "proactive model of energy development," the country's economy will begin to stagnate because it will lack the necessary capacities. Currently, the situation is developing according to a model of lagging satisfaction of demand for electricity and capacity with a delay of an average of two to three years.

Tsivilev emphasized that they essentially face the task of "building a new electricity system for Russia," which is comparable to the tasks of GOELRO (the developer of the electrification plan for the country in the USSR). Huge sums of money are required for these goals. The funds currently available are insufficient to address these tasks, the Russian minister noted.

Previously, Tsivilev warned that the reserves in the energy sector that remained after the collapse of the USSR have been exhausted, and now the Russian industry is experiencing a lack of funding. In addition, the refusal of Western countries to supply equipment for the modernization of thermal power plants remains a problem, causing work to be postponed because there are no analogs in Russia.

It is worth noting that Vladimir Putin has held leadership positions in the Russian government for an entire generation, outlasting Leonid Brezhnev, which means he bears direct responsibility for the degradation of the energy sector.
