They Don't Want to Take Risks - New Year's Concert on the Champs-Élysées in Paris Will Not Take Place

According to franceinfo, the New Year's concert on the Champs-Élysées in Paris will not take place. Authorities want to avoid risks associated with the influx of many people.

As reported by franceinfo from several sources, this year the New Year's concert on the Champs-Élysées will not take place for safety reasons.

"I think this is the right decision. The avenue is not designed to accommodate the public during a concert," explained the mayor of the 8th arrondissement, Jeanne d'Hauteserre, referring to the huge influx of people last year and the risk to children present on the avenue.

The police prefecture appealed to the Paris City Hall to cancel the musical event to minimize risks and avoid large gatherings of people. Mayor Anne Hidalgo agreed to this request.

"Last year, during two hours of New Year's celebrations on the Champs-Élysées, we had more dangerous situations than during three weeks of the Olympic Games," said the Paris police commissioner to franceinfo.

Previous concerts indeed raised concerns among security services. On New Year's Eve, up to a million people traditionally gathered on the avenue and the surrounding streets. For the event in 2025, 6,000 police officers and gendarmes were mobilized in Paris and its suburbs, and three mandatory checkpoints were organized for access to the avenue.

However, to the great delight of Parisians and visitors to the French capital, the fireworks will take place. The concert will be broadcast on the evening of December 31 on France 2. It was recorded at the end of November at Place de la Concorde, with extras as the audience.
