The SBU, together with British intelligence services, exposed a military instructor who, at the behest of Russia, may have supplied weapons to the perpetrators of the murders of politicians Andriy Parubiy and Iryna Faryon.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), together with British intelligence services, has uncovered a British citizen who, in 2024-2025, trained Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers and conducted intelligence activities in favor of Russia. He is currently detained and in custody. This was reported on Tuesday, December 2, citing sources in the SBU, by RBC-Ukraine.
According to the publication, David Katmore arrived in Ukraine in 2024 as an instructor to train Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers. He previously served in the British Army and participated in operations in the Middle East.
According to sources from the journalists, in Ukraine, Katmore was likely engaged in reconnaissance and sabotage activities. The investigation suggests that Russian intelligence services supplied the Briton with weapons and ammunition to carry out "targeted killings" on the territory of the country. The SBU believes that Katmore may have brought in and delivered weapons to the perpetrators of the murders of public figure Dmytro Hanul and politicians Iryna Faryon and Andriy Parubiy.
Murders of Iryna Faryon and Andriy Parubiy
Former member of the Ukrainian Parliament and well-known opponent of the Russian language Iryna Faryon died after an assassination attempt on her in Lviv near her home on Masaryk Street, which occurred on July 19, 2025. She was hospitalized in serious condition and, after surgery, was in a deep brain coma. "Despite all the efforts of the doctors, it was not possible to save Iryna Faryon," said the head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, at that time.
On August 30 of the same year, Kozytskyi reported the murder of former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy. Shortly before that, the National Police of Ukraine stated that as a result of gunfire in the Sykhiv district of Lviv, a "well-known public and political figure" born in 1971 was killed, without naming the individual.
