Veterans of the AFU will train German officers. According to General Christian Freuding, the Bundeswehr wants to bring Ukrainian veterans to Germany. "It is important to take into account the experience of Ukrainians in our training," emphasized the Inspector of the German Land Forces.

Veterans of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) who participated in repelling the aggression of the Russian Federation will train Bundeswehr officers. This was stated by the Inspector (Chief) of the Land Forces, Lieutenant General Christian Freuding, in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung published on Thursday, November 20. Previously, Freuding headed the situation center for Ukraine at the German Ministry of Defense, which coordinates military assistance for the AFU.

"We can never replicate the experience gained in real life. Therefore, it is much more important for me to take into account the experience of Ukrainians in our training. I have agreed with my Ukrainian colleague that we want to bring veterans to Germany," emphasized the general.

According to him, Ukrainian servicemen will be able to speak at military academies where officers and non-commissioned officers of the Bundeswehr are trained and share their experiences of the war. "And this experience should then be reflected in practical training through Ukrainian instructors," he added.

Freuding: The War in Ukraine is Not a Model for Conflict with NATO

At the same time, the general urged against drawing direct parallels between the war in Ukraine and a possible conflict between the Russian Federation and NATO: "I believe that Russia's war against NATO forces would theoretically unfold completely differently than the war against Ukraine. NATO's capabilities, for example, to operate deep in the combat zone with ground troops, as well as in the air, at sea, and in cyberspace, are completely different from those of Ukrainians, even though they fight with impressive bravery. The war in Ukraine is not a template for a conflict between Russia and NATO."

"What is happening in Ukraine should further push us to maintain peace through deterrence," added Freuding. "Russia is analyzing its combat experience and taking it into account in its doctrine and training programs. Therefore, I warn all those who believe that the Russian army is incapable of learning."
