An ancient sculpture depicting the copulation of a woman and a goose has been found in Israel.
Israeli archaeologists have discovered an unusual artifact on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, created about 12,000 years ago. This was reported by The Times of Israel.
The unique clay figurine depicting a woman and a goose was found during excavations at the Nahal Ein Gev II site. According to researchers, it is the oldest known pornographic depiction in science. Scholars interpret the scene as symbolic copulation, indicating the complex beliefs of the ancient Natufians.
This small sculpture, measuring only 3.7 centimeters in height, was buried in a special place used for ritual burials. "It is likely that someone intentionally buried figurines and other items in this specific location as an offering or gift," explained researcher Laurent Davin. In addition to the figurine, other sculptures were found at the site, but none depict interactions between humans and animals.
Scientists emphasize that geese were not only a staple of the local community's diet but also an important symbolic element of their culture, as evidenced by numerous bones and likely the use of feathers. The discovered artifact radically changes the understanding of the symbolic world and ritual practices of the first settled hunter-gatherers of the Levant.
