Trump ordered Attorney General Pam Bondi to begin an investigation into the connections between prominent Democrats, including former U.S. President Bill Clinton, and convicted Jeffrey Epstein after Congress published new emails.

U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the Department of Justice to investigate the connections of disgraced financier and convicted criminal Jeffrey Epstein with several major banks and Democratic lawmakers, including former President Bill Clinton. New figures were revealed from emails recently published by Congress.

The House Oversight Committee of the U.S. Congress released emails belonging to Jeffrey Epstein on Wednesday. They detail his conversations with many well-known entrepreneurs, lawmakers, and influential figures in the U.S. and abroad.

Trump accused the Democratic Party of attempting to "revive the Epstein hoax" to "distract from all their bad policies and losses, especially the embargo on stopping work."

He accused the party of being in "complete disarray" and reiterated that Epstein himself was a supporter of the Democrats.

"Epstein was a Democrat, and he is a problem for the Democrats, not the Republicans!" he wrote on Friday. "Ask Bill Clinton, Reid Hoffman, and Larry Summers about Epstein; they know everything about him, don’t waste your time on Trump. I have a country to run!"

In a separate post, he stated that he had directed U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Epstein's connections with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, who served as Treasury Secretary under Clinton, and Reid Hoffman, the founder of LinkedIn and a prominent Democratic donor.

"I will ask Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice, along with our great patriots from the FBI, to investigate Jeffrey Epstein's involvement and his relationships with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, J.P. Morgan, Chase, and many other people and institutions to determine what was going on with them and with him," Trump stated.

Clinton has vehemently denied any wrongdoing or knowledge of Epstein's crimes. The largest bank in the U.S., J.P. Morgan Chase, also took a similar stance, expressing regret over its connection with the disgraced former financier.

"We regret any connections with this person, but we did not assist him in carrying out his disgusting actions" and "ended our relationship with him several years before his arrest on sex trafficking charges," said Patricia Wexler, a spokesperson for J.P. Morgan Chase.

In response, Bondi announced on her X page that she had appointed Southern District of New York Prosecutor Jay Clayton to oversee the investigation that Trump ordered.

"Clayton is one of the most capable and reliable prosecutors in the country, and I asked him to lead the case," Bondi wrote.

"As with any other case, the Department will handle this urgently and in good faith to provide answers to the American people."

This investigation comes just a week before the House of Representatives—the lower chamber of the U.S. Congress—votes on whether the Department of Justice should release all its files related to Epstein, who died in jail in 2019 awaiting trial by suicide.

On Friday, Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene urged Trump to create conditions under which Republicans in the House would vote to release the documents. She noted that failing to do so would be a "huge misstep" on the part of the U.S. President.

Greene, along with four other Republicans, signed a petition that garnered 218 signatures calling for the release of all Epstein files.
