Ukrainian troops retreated from several settlements in the key southeastern region of Zaporizhzhia, where the advance of Russian troops continues. However, Kyiv stated that their advance has been halted.
Kyiv's forces retreated from Rovnopole to "more advantageous positions to preserve the lives of personnel," military command stated, adding that the advance of Russian troops in this sector has been halted amid ongoing heavy fighting along the line of contact.
In the Alexandrovsk and Hulyaipole directions, the Russian army continues to deliver massive strikes and has intensified assault operations in the areas of the settlements of Pryvilne, Zelenyi Hai, Rovnopole, Pavlivka, Voronoe, Stepne, and Novopavlivske.
On Tuesday, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated that the situation has "significantly worsened" in the eastern areas of the region amid fierce battles with Russian troops.
"The situation has significantly escalated in the Alexandrovsk and Hulyaipole directions, where, using numerical superiority in personnel and equipment, the enemy has advanced and captured three settlements during fierce fighting," he wrote on Telegram.
According to Syrskyi, Russian troops are using weather conditions - dense fog - to infiltrate between Ukrainian positions.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities announced the mandatory evacuation of families with children from the village of Malokaterynivka in the Zaporizhzhia region.
"We ask residents to understand this decision, not to delay, and to follow the instructions of the relevant services. Your safety is our top priority."
Organized evacuation is also being conducted in the frontline city of Hulyaipole in the eastern Zaporizhzhia region.
The head of the Hulyaipole military administration reported that in the city, which had a population of about 12,800 before the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine in early 2022, fewer than 500 remain.
