The U.S. lifted sanctions on Belavia and the plane of the Lukashenko family

U.S. authorities have removed the Belarusian state airline Belavia and the plane used by Alexander Lukashenko's family from the sanctions list, announced the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Treasury.

This concerns the sanctions that Washington imposed against Minsk in December 2021, writes Meduza.

In addition to Belavia, the restrictions were lifted from the Bombardier Challenger 850 aircraft with registration number EW-301PJ. This is a business jet used by high-ranking officials of the Belarusian government and members of the Lukashenko family, notes the publication Zerkalo.

The U.S. Treasury also issued a temporary license for operations with three aircraft with tail numbers EW-001PA, EW-001PB, and EW-001PH. They, according to the document, are linked to Alexander Lukashenko or the company Slavalij, which remain under sanctions.

It became known on September 11 that the U.S. would lift sanctions on Belavia. This was announced by U.S. President's representative John Cole during a meeting with Alexander Lukashenko.

The U.S. lifted sanctions on the Belarusian carrier and several aircraft in response to the release of a large group of Belarusian political prisoners.
