Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Monday evening that combat operations continue in the city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region, LETA reports citing BBC.
"I spoke with the military — special attention is being paid to Pokrovsk and the surrounding areas. The most powerful forces of the occupiers and high assault activity are concentrated there. Fighting continues in the city — this is their main goal, specifically Pokrovsk," Zelensky said in an evening address.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine reported that Russian troops have resumed attempts to capture Pokrovsk — fierce battles are taking place in the city, sabotage and reconnaissance groups are operating, and the Ukrainian army, according to Zelensky, is facing logistical difficulties.
The Russian Ministry of Defense previously stated that Russian assault groups "are conducting active offensive actions with the aim of expanding the zone of control near the railway station."
